CULTIVAR TESTING AND EVALUATION
Evaluation of new banana cultivars and mutant clones
Evaluation study for 5 new banana cultivars introduced from South Africa
High yielding cultivars (Grandnain and Williams mutant 193) were released for growers. However, dissemination of these cultivars is still slow in the farmer’s field, because tissue culture labs in Sudan have limited capacity and low capital base.
Research on post fruit harvest started late but with significant achievements in the National Food Research Center and the University of Gezira
Title: Temperature programmes for commercial ripening banana (RH was kept between 85% and 90%)
Findings: 4 days programme was recommended for quick returns in which room temperature should be at 25°C once a day for the 4days and the other 3 be at 20°C. For 5days ripening period, the temperature should be at 20°C continuously.
