In Rwanda according to FAO 2011 out of the 1000Ha of Agricultural land, the annual area harvested under banana is 31 ha (based on Imputation method), with an annual  yield of 14194 Hg/Ha  (calculated data)  and annual production quantity of 44tones (based on Imputation method)

The consumption of bananas in Rwanda is one of the highest in the Great Lakes region. In the year 2000, annual per capita consumption was estimated at 258 kg (ibid.). About 80% of Rwandan Households practice banana production mainly for Household food security and income generation. A typical household’s agricultural enterprise regime comprises 50% tubers, 30%bananas and 20% Legumes, cereals and Vegetables (RADA, 2007)
