Bioversity International is hands on in helping the small Cavendish growers in Davao City, Philippines by partnering with them in research on the field evaluation of resistant varieties and sharing with them science based information for the integrated management of Foc TR4.)
Bioversity International Asia Pacific forges public-private research partnerships in seeking science-based solutions to real production constraints seriously threatening the Philippines’ multi-billion peso banana export industry. Bioversity International works with small Cavendish growers as well as big banana companies, and government partners in addressing a disease affecting not only banana farmers in the Philippines and Asia but the world over. Resistant banana varieties are being studied for their use to alleviate the problem. Dr. Gus Molina, of Bioversity International, is shown here with growers and researchers appreciating some positive outcomes.
